WHAT IS A SP?
Meet the ultimate actors of the medical world - the Standardized Patients. These are the individuals who bring realism and standardization to medical education and assessment by simulating real-life medical scenarios. They are specially trained to portray a specific set of symptoms, case history and behavior, making the experience as close to reality as possible.
Think of them as the Meryl Streep of the medical world, immersing themselves fully in the role of the patient. They are dedicated partners in assessment, continuing education programs and training, providing students and practitioners with the opportunity to sharpen their clinical skills and knowledge.
Unlike traditional actors, these performers don't just act, they also educate by providing valuable feedback on the participation of those in training. They are trained by experienced medical professionals and are provided with detailed scripts, instructions, and guidelines to make sure the scenario is portrayed accurately.
Many of our Simulated Clients and Standardized Patients are professional actors while others are teachers, educators, retired individuals lawyers, students, or writers. All have a deep love, interest and respect for education and communication based teaching and learning.
